DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night of dreamy indie rock from Lunar Vacation—catch their hazy guitars\, infectious hooks\, and late-night vibes live! \n\n\n\n\nAs one would expect of any historic city\, the houses in Decatur\, GA are old\, and while many have been renovated to suit the needs of the 21st century family\, the one Lunar Vacation calls home has not. The porch is quaint and crumbly\, the roof leaks\, and there is a single bathroom shared by the band’s five members who insist that this is not\, actually\, a bad thing. “I used to be so protective of the songs when I gave them over to the band\,” lyricist/vocalist/guitarist Gep Repasky says. \n“There’s so much trust involved\, but this house helped us grow as best friends\, as musicians\, as a band.” That newfound sense of trust is apparent on Everything Matters\, Everything’s Fire\, whose title\, taken from the concluding track “You Shouldn’t Be\,” is a thesis statement. While Lunar Vacation’s last album\, 2021’s Inside Every Fig is a Dead Wasp\, happily bathed in the waters of indie pop\, their latest effort is exploratory\, a product of many hours shared experimenting in a living room together. Inspired by prolific shapeshifters like Yo La Tengo and Björk\, Everything Matters\, Everything’s Fire adopts an ethos that every idea has the potential to be a good one. \n“Our last album was super produced\, manicured\,” guitarist/vocalist Maggie Geeslin says. “This one’s organic. DESCRIPTION:Duo Lowertown brings their community-driven world to life live—punk roots\, internet energy\, and connection onstage w/ Micah Preite. \n\n\n\n\nLowertown finally caught their breath. Over the last few years\, the New York-based duo of Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg was teetering on the brink. From constant touring and a separation from their label to creative frustrations and an unhealthy attachment to one another\, their artistic partnership and\, more importantly\, their friendship were on shaky ground—especially since these experiences were colored by the disorienting intensity of their late teens and early 20s. It became clear that the two had to revisit their roots. \nThose roots sprung in Atlanta\, Georgia\, in the forests\, in the soon-to-be abandoned venues\, in makeshift punk communities\, but their roots also strengthened somewhere else entirely: on the internet. The band grew up on Tumblr fanpages\, Reddit forums\, digital spaces that had not yet been corporatized. They were able to observe and take part in music\, anime\, and film fandoms that grew stronger in these ungoverned places. So much so\, that the fandoms leapt from the virtual to the physical\, bringing people together to meet at concerts\, coffee shops\, and conventions to discuss their obsessions and connect over shared interests. During the pandemic\, they watched these spaces change\, become commodified\, and disappear; people no longer had these physical spaces to be solely amongst friends with shared interests where communities and fandoms could strengthen. Out of this vacuum\, the Ugly Duckling Union was born. \nInspired by the conceptual creativity of bands like Gorillaz and the emphasis on the communal concert experience of Fugazi\, Lowertown’s new album\, fittingly titled Ugly Duckling Union\, is the conceptual world of Dale the duckling protagonist and his companions as they attempt to band together to defeat LBH\, a tyrannical media corporation set on separating and isolating in their pursuit of control. \nDoors at 7:00pm. Endless war. We doomscroll as our rights are stripped away. Bombings. Kidnappings. Mass shootings. The nightly news is a litany of brutality. Assassination. Subjugation. Deportation. We argue with each other while the rich get richer and cruelty is normalized. These are just a few of the reasons why the title of The Casualties’ new album is Detonate. \n“It stems from being overloaded\,” drummer Marc “Meggers” Eggers says. “You feel like your head is about to explode\, which I think is what everybody is feeling these days. You’re pounced on day by day with terrible news and social media\, and you just feel like you’re going to snap.” \n“Not too long ago\, we were stuck in COVID\,” guitarist Jake Kolatis adds. “Now we’re trying to get back to normal life\, and the world has gone crazy. There are continuous wars and internal political battles here. Everybody’s tearing each other apart. Detonate is saying we’re tired of all this division. With this record\, we have a chance to say something and promote some type of unity.” \nDetonate is the second chapter in a new epoch for The Casualties. As their second album with David Rodriguez at the mic\, it solidifies the vocalist’s partnership with Meggers and Kolatis. “It’s like a new era for the band\,” Meggers says. “It solidifies that Dave is here to stay.” \nDoors at 7:00pm.
