Discover the North Shore is a convention and visitors bureau dedicated to marketing Milwaukee County’s North Shore region to the world. We serve our residents and business leaders as a destination marketing organization (DMO). Providing information on premier events, hotel accommodations, transportation, attractions, and more.

Discover The North Shore plays a crucial role in driving economic development, increasing tourism, and enhancing the overall community’s visibility as a destination. We often collaborate with local businesses, government agencies, and community organizations to create comprehensive strategies for destination marketing and development.

As a destination marketing organization, Discover the North Shore works to promote both our local communities and the greater Milwaukee area to business and leisure travelers alike. Our job is to attract visitors from all over who bring an economic impact to our local communities.

The North Shore of Milwaukee is comprised of seven communities. Glendale, Brown Deer, River Hills, Bayside, Fox Point, Whitefish Bay, and Shorewood. Each community has their own charm and personality.

Glendale
“We put the ALE in Glend-ALE”

Glendale features a wide variety of top-notch attractions with a small-town feel. We’re proud of Glendale’s safe neighborhoods, award-winning attractions, large and small events, and friendly people.

Glendale is a great place to live, work, play and reside. Glendale is perfectly situated minutes from downtown Milwaukee and only one mile West of Lake Michigan. This city has all the benefits of a large metropolitan center yet, feels like a small-town neighborhood.  Discover beautiful parks, award-winning dining, premier shopping, top schools, and a variety of outdoor recreational activities. 

The Milwaukee River runs through our City…while the Oak Leaf Trail embraces it.  Glendale is proud to have top Fortune companies, leading medical centers, and BAYSHORE, the Entertainment District of the North Shore. Glendale is also known as “The Root Beer Capital of the Universe”, check out why at “the World’s Largest Root Beer Float”, Sprecher Root Beer  Bash hosted every August. Sprecher Brewing has a long history as the oldest Craft Brewery in Milwaukee and is located right here in Glendale.

Brown Deer
There is much speculation as to how Brown Deer got its name. Legend has it that a deer jumped through a saloon door and broke up a card game in progress – hence, the name Brown Deer! 

Surrounded by lush greenery and serene parks, Brown Deer offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The village’s diverse population fosters a rich tapestry of cultures and traditions, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all. Outdoor enthusiasts revel in the abundance of recreational activities available, from hiking and biking along scenic trails to teeing off at the prestigious Brown Deer Golf Course.

Brown Deer Golf Course, nestled in the picturesque village of Brown Deer, Wisconsin, stands as a testament to the beauty of the sport and the rich history of the area. Renowned as one of the premier public golf courses in the Midwest, this meticulously designed course has earned its reputation as a golfer’s paradise.

River Hills
River Hills, Wisconsin, is a quiet, scenic suburb of Milwaukee, named for the Milwaukee River, which runs through its western section. Though part of the North Shore, it is not located along Lake Michigan.

Wealthy Milwaukee families, including the Allises and Uihleins, established large estates here in the early 20th century, and the Milwaukee Country Club, founded in 1911, became a central hub for community life. The village is home to the prestigious University School of Milwaukee, Indian Hill Elementary School, and several churches and synagogues. 

A cultural highlight is the Lynden Sculpture Garden, a 40-acre outdoor museum featuring large-scale sculptures set among gardens, lakes, and woodlands. River Hills has no commercial businesses, preserving its peaceful, natural character. The community values its open spaces, history, and commitment to maintaining a serene residential environment.

Bayside
Nestled along the scenic shores of Lake Michigan, Bayside, Wisconsin, embodies the essence of coastal charm and suburban sophistication. This picturesque village offers a captivating blend of natural beauty, vibrant community spirit, and modern conveniences, making it a sought-after destination for residents and visitors alike.

Beyond its stunning natural landscapes, Bayside is characterized by its close-knit community and strong sense of civic pride. Residents come together to celebrate local events, support small businesses, and foster connections that enrich the fabric of village life.

The Schlitz Audubon Nature Center calls Bayside home. The Schlitz Audubon Nature Center was once a farm for the Schlitz Brewery draft horses, and since 1971, Schlitz Audubon has been a home for environmental education and outdoor discovery. While exploring the six miles of trails you will walk by prairies, ponds, forests, ravines, and Lake Michigan shoreline. The trails encompass a growing number of wheelchair accessible paths and boardwalks, inviting everyone to explore nature regardless of age or ability.

They offer six miles of trails that take visitors through 185 acres of forests, wetlands, restored prairies, ravines, bluffs, and Lake Michigan shoreline. They have a history much longer than the more than four decades, where it has been a place for environmental education.

Fox Point
Fox Point, Wisconsin, is a picturesque North Shore community known for its scenic lakefront, tree-lined streets, and beautiful natural surroundings.

Bordered by Lake Michigan, Bayside, Whitefish Bay, and Interstate 43, Fox Point offers a mix of quiet residential living and convenient access to Milwaukee. Residents enjoy top-rated schools, well-maintained parks, and high-quality municipal services.

The village also features a variety of local businesses, including shops, restaurants, and The Friendship Circle of Wisconsin’s Bakery & Art Studio, a unique community hub. 

Doctors Park is located on the border of Fox Point and Bayside on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, and is part of the Milwaukee County Parks system. It is comprised of approximately 49 acres situated on the bluff, and features a number of ways to descend from the parking lot, playground and sports fields above to a secluded beach along Lake Michigan.

Fox Point is committed to preserving its natural beauty and providing a safe, welcoming environment for all. Its strong sense of community and dedication to enhancing residents’ quality of life make it a highly desirable place to live and visit.

Whitefish Bay
Whitefish Bay is a contemporary village with the vision of being an inclusive, thriving, and sustainable community. At the heart of Whitefish Bay is a unique and friendly shopping  district with shops that provide great customer service and genuine, specialized personal care. Their exclusive retailers and distinctive establishments offer an array of exceptional products and services unavailable in conventional shopping experiences.

Shorewood
Shorewood is the most​ densely populated Village in Wisconsin.  Shorewood’s density, walkability and location give it a distinct urban feel, yet it also boasts suburban advantages, such as a nationally recognized school district and excellent Village services. With its location on the lake and close to downtown, its excellent schools, its fascinating and forward-thinking people, and its eclectic shops and unique architecture.

Residents and visitors alike enjoy walks along the waterfront, picnics in the park, and a variety of water activities, all against the backdrop of breathtaking lake views. Beyond its natural splendor, Shorewood boasts a thriving community spirit and a rich cultural scene.
